PIEDAD BALLESTEROS
Hello,
First of all, I would like to introduce myself,
my name is Piedad and I was a student at the Language
School here in Talavera
de la Reina . Recently, I have learned that this Language School
is celebrating its 25 anniversary. Therefore, I decided to write a few words
and share my experience there when I was doing my English studies.
To start with, I began my studies there at
intermediate level all the way up to advanced one. In total, I spent four years
there, and throughout those years my English level improved a lot. Several
things made my English studies and that improvement possible:
Firstly, I have to say that having the Language School
located here in Talavera de la
Reina is a great opportunity for people who live in this town
and from other villages close to it, to be able to do their language studies
without moving to other places such as Toledo , Ciudad Real like it used
to be. Apart from that, while I was studying at the Language School ,
they added more school timetables, making them more flexible and suitable for
students in order to attend classes. For example, when I started there were no
classes in the mornings for advanced students, but they were added over the
time and I had the chance to be able to choose it.
Secondly, I am grateful to my teachers. I had
three; and I could connect really well with two of them, Elena and Enrique, because
you could tell that they liked their profession and cared about their students
always motivating and encouraging us and trying to help students improve their
English and be able to pass the exams. I will always be thankful to you both
for that. Also, I am really glad for having had such good classmates. They were
really hard-working people, and some of them had a high English level, so they
were a role model for me in order to make my English pronunciation and
intonation better. Thank you all for being such great people.
However, there are some things that I still
miss a lot. For example, when I started there used to be English speaking
classes in the afternoon once a week for students to be able to practice their
speaking skills a bit more, which I think it is very important, because a language
is basically oral communication, and also it is the skill that students usually
practice the least. Apart from that, I would also like these exams at the Language School to have the same value
internationally as other exams such as the First Certificate and so on. I hope
it will be the case in the future.
Finally, I would like to finish giving a piece
of advice as a former student, and it is that studying a foreign Language takes
a long time, is a never-ending process, so it’s up to everyone of us to set the
pace for that process depending on our status, needs and so on. But one cannot
expect to be able to pass exams just taking two classes a week and doing some
homework that the teachers set. Instead, one has to put a lot of hours into it
and make the most of the resources that the Language School offers for students
such as the library and other things.
I want to end saying
CONGRATULATIONS ON THE 25 ANNIVERSARY OF THE LANGUAGE SCHOOL
IN TALAVERA DE LA REINA .
